Worship Support Ministries
What Qualifies as 'Worship Support'
St. Alban’s Episcopal Church is a warm and welcoming community of faith in Newtown Square, PA. We are rooted in the Episcopal tradition and guided by our mission:
“We strive to be the voice, heart, hands, and feet of Jesus Christ.”
At St. Alban’s, worship is at the center of our life together, but so is community. Families, children, neighbors, and newcomers all have a place here. With Sunday School and childcare each week, a vibrant choir, Bible study, and fellowship opportunities, we seek to grow together in faith while supporting one another in daily life.
At St. Alban’s, we gather to worship Almighty God in the beauty of holiness, grounded in our Anglican tradition and open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. Our worship is offered with reverence, care, and joy, and it takes many people sharing their gifts to make our services welcoming, meaningful, and beautiful. Our Worship Support ministries offer opportunities for people of all ages to take an active role in the worship and prayer of our community.
Worship Support Roles
VERGERS
Help coordinate the flow of our worship, supporting the clergy and other worship leaders and helping each service move smoothly and reverently.
ACOLYTES
Serve at the altar, carrying the cross and torches, assisting with the Gospel procession, and helping the clergy throughout the service. Children, youth, and adults can all take part in this important ministry.
ALTAR GUILD
Members prepare the church for worship and care for the altar, vessels, linens, and other items used in our services. Much of their ministry happens quietly behind the scenes, but their care and attention help make our worship possible.
GREETERS
Offer a warm welcome to everyone who comes through our doors, with special attention to visitors and newcomers. They help people find their way, answer questions, make introductions, and ensure that everyone who enters St. Alban’s knows they are seen, valued, and welcome.
USHERS
Help extend that welcome into our worship, distributing bulletins, assisting people with seating and other needs, and helping the service move smoothly.
LECTORS
Proclaim the Word of God by reading the lessons during worship and help lead the congregation in prayer.
CHOIR
Members help lead the congregation in song and enrich our worship through anthems and other sacred music. Music is an important part of our Anglican heritage and an important way we offer our praise to God.
AV & STREAMING
Volunteers help extend our worship beyond the walls of the church, making it possible for those who cannot be with us in person to remain connected to the worshiping life of St. Alban’s.
Each of these ministries is an opportunity to offer our time and gifts in service to God and to one another. Whether your place is at the altar, in the choir, at the door, at the lectern, behind a camera, or quietly preparing the church for Sunday morning, there is a place for you in the worshiping life of St. Alban’s.
